Car with explosives, detonator found near Amritsar railway station

An explosive-laden abandoned Maruti car with a fake Delhi registration number plate was found near Amritsar main railway station today, police said.

Police commissioner of Amritsar Varinder Kumar Sharma said the car containing a detonator and two packets of explosive material was traced this afternoon following a tip-off by the owner of a eatery and nearby shopkeepers.

On searching the car, police found two packets explosive material weighing nearly 2 kilograms and one detonator, Sharma said adding the explosive material was being sent to forensic lab.

Police have so far failed to trace the owner of the car.
