New business ventures will mushroom in the Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad (MICA) this year.

As the MICA's Entrepreneurial Development Centre (MICA-EDC) runs its third batch this year, it is expected to come up with the highest number of entrepreneurs this year.

With all the 33 students of the batch, either individually or in partnership, not only sprouting ideas for businesses but also swinging into action to hatch these ideas into reality, around 22 new business enterprises would emerge from the institute by the end of this academic year.

"With around 24 new business ventures in the pipeline, we are expecting this batch this year to yield the highest number of business ventures until now." said Gautam Raj Jain, vice-chairperson of  MICA-EDC.

The new business ventures include businesses in various areas, including social development, differently abled, business though web portals and so on.

Explaining the reason for the exceptionally high number of businesses that would come up this year from the 15 months course, Jain said, "The selection of students and the curriculum of the programme has been restructured this year to achieve such results."

The new admission process adopted by MICA-EDC this year tried to ensure that only students who are genuinely interested in setting up their own ventures, were selected. While the students were chosen on the basis of  their innovative ideas, the programme also focused on facilitating incubation of these ideas, while they simultaneously get management training from the classrooms, guidance form mentors, as well as experience through internships. Jain said, "With the unique idea of admission of students through their ideas, we have broken  conventional norms."

This year MICA-EDC will not support placement of students as the course intends the students to start their own ventures. About students who intend to opt to seek placements by themselves instead of continuing their own ventures, Jain said, "It is a democratic country and they are free to do that."

From the previous batch, only one student, Ruchir Joshi, is maintaining his business venture called 'Healthy Che', while the others have gone ahead to secure jobs with companies.
