It was a crowded press conference, but with BJP legislators and Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa’s cabinet colleagues turning up in huge numbers, the event turned out to be a show of strength of  Yeddyurappa’s leadership within the party amid reported moves by a section of the party leadership to see his exit.

The CM addressed the media flanked by over 12 ministers and more than 30 legislators. “There is no question of quitting over the leaked report of Lokayukta,” he said. He unveiled his roadmap to prepare for the worst.

Yeddyurappa has convened a meeting of BJP MPs at his residence on July 31 to brief them about the strategies to be adopted in Parliament to defend him.

The CM will hit the road on a campaign trail in August to address huge public meetings covering 20 districts. “I will enlighten people about false allegations being made to malign my government,” he said. Yeddyurappa denied reports that he had threatened BJP national president Nitin Gadkari of a revolt in the party if any attempt was made to ease him out from the CM’s post. “I will abide by the decisions of the BJP high command.”
