A minor boy who was missing since September last year has been rescued from his kidnappers, which includes a young couple who demanded Rs40 lakh as ransom, police said today.

Two-and-half-year-old Pranjal was rescued from the house of one of the accused in Jehangirpuri yesterday, deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said.

The arrested were identified as Narender Kumar Dabas(34), his wife Santosh, Gaurav Kumar Khatri (27) and Amit Kumar (21).

The boy was kidnapped on the intervening night of September 30 and October one when he was sleeping with his parents on the first floor of the house. In the morning, a call was received on the mobile phone of his mother.

The family received a series of ransom calls demanding Rs40 lakh. The calls were made from Bhopura, Karera in Ghaziabad and Adarsh Nagar, Azadpur Mandi, Pitampura, Janakpuri, Tilak Nagar in Delhi.

On October 13, Pranjal's father went with the first instalment of the ransom amount of Rs4 lakh but the kidnappers became suspicious and did not accept the money. They asked him to go back after threatening to kill the child, police said. The kidnappers again called the family next day and they took the delivery of Rs four lakh. However, despite receiving the ransom money, they did not release Pranjal.

The arrests came after the kidnappers made another ransom demand yesterday, police said.

"When the third call was being made from Fruit Mandi in Azadpur by a lady, police managed to reach there and catch her along with an accomplice. "Subsequently, at their instance, the abducted child was rescued from a rented premise in Jahangirpuri from the custody of Narender Kumar. Another co-accused Gaurav was later arrested from Jain Colony, Prahaladpur, Delhi," Kumar said.

Incidentally, Dabas is a close relative of the kidnapped child and had got to know that the boy's father Surender Singh Solanki had received Rs40 lakh as his share of an ancestral property.

"Dabas then hatched a conspiracy with others and kidnapped the boy," Kumar said.
