BJP secures 79% seats at civic polls in

While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a clean sweep at the city civic polls of 2010, it has also distinctly bettered its record. At the AMC elections held in October 2005, the party secured 96 seats out of a total of 129, over 43 wards. This time, the party has managed 148 seats out of a total of 189, across 63 wards. Their seat sharing ratio has also improved by 4%, to reach 78.83% from last election's 74.41%.

The election for Saijpur Bogha ward has been postponed, on account of the death of candidate Ganpat Parmar. Hence that result is yet to be taken into account.

On the other hand, the Congress could add only six seats to the
tally it managed last time. In the October 2005 elections, the Congress had won 32 seats, which reached 38 this election.

Moreover, the BJP's panels had emerged victorious in 28 wards in October 2005, which has reached 48 wards this time. On the other hand, the Congress' panel became victorious in 10 wards, as compared to last elections' seven.

This time, Kalupur, Chandkheda-Motera, Rajpur and Lambha showed mixed response. The Congress won Danilimda and Naroda wards, which were in the BJP's fold last time. The Congress lost its panel to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and an independent in Rajpur ward. Similarly, the BJP took away two seats in Dhudheshwar, and one seat in Sabarmati ward.  The BJP had repeated only 33 sitting corporators, out of whom, only Menaben Patni from Naroda ward could not manage to be re-elected. On the other hand, the Congress repeated 18 sitting corporators, out of which 12 managed to be re-elected.
