BJP today held demonstrations in the Jammu region accusing the state government of attempting to demoralise the security forces operating in the border state.

The protesters burnt effigies of the state government at all the 10 district headquarters -- Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar --in the region.

In Jammu city, over 1,500 activists led by BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas marched through market places raising anti-government slogans.

Later they burnt effigies of the state government at city's Chowk area.

In Samba, the state highway was blocked by over 500 activists led by senior BJP leader S P Ganga for over half an hour as part of the demonstration.

"We are concerned over the total failure of the state government in tackling the security situation in Kashmir valley, where the security force personnel are being targeted, attacked and mercilessly beaten by the mobs and demoralised by the ministers of the ruling NC-Congress coalition," Manhas told reporters here.

"We will also held demonstrations on July 2 and July 3 at town, tehsil and block levels in the region," he said.

Manhas alleged that security forces were being unnecessarily defamed and demoralised because of the incompetence of the state government to deal with the situation in Kashmir.

"The security forces have been doing a commendable job in the valley during all these decades of militancy and deserve appreciation for creating a congenial atmosphere," he said.

The present trouble in Kashmir has been manipulated by anti-national elements to jeopardise the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra, Manhas said.
