The BJP has fielded SS Ahluwalia from Jharkhand. Ahluwalia, who was the BJP’s deputy leader of the House, was not re-nominated in March as the BJP felt it did not have enough numbers to ensure his victory.
Then came the controversial episode of London-based Anshuman Mishra, who filed his nomination as an independent, and hoped to win the support of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and also the BJP.
Mishra’s nomination created a furore when he claimed to be close to several senior BJP leaders, and his claim was roundly denied by the party. Mishra had to withdraw from the race.
