Seeking to distance itself from 'yoga guru' Baba Ramdev's proposal to raise a force, BJP today said it was not in favour of formation of any armed squad for broadbasing the battle against corruption.

"BJP is certainly not in favour of having an armed squad as part of the anti-corruption campaign in the country. Our party never believes in violence," party's national secretary Santosh Gangwar told reporters here.

Even Baba Ramdev has clarified that he actually wants to raise a nationalist force by imparting training in self-defence to the youth, he said.

Asserting that BJP would solidly back any form of anti-corruption crusade, the BJP leader said the party would spread the campaign against corruption launched by Ramdev and civil rights activist Anna Hazare across the country.

Hitting out at the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for the action on Ramdev's satyagraha at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on June 5, Gangwar hailed the role of the Supreme Court in stepping in.

The judiciary is playing an active and positive role in assisting the anti-graft initiatives and bringing truth to light, he said slamming the UPA government accusing it of taking no step to retrieve black money stashed abroad.

Attcking Congress president Sonia Gandhi for remaining silent on police action during Ramdev's fast in Delhi, Gangwar said both Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must apologise to the nation for the episode.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi raised the matter of alleged police atrocities on farmers in Bhatta-Parsaul but have not shown similar zeal in condemning police action at Ramlila, he said.
