BJP Thursday demanded that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram order a high-level inquiry into the alleged irregularities in distribution of provisional regularisation certificates by Delhi government.

Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta, in a letter to Chidambaram, alleged that "fictitious unauthorised colonies" were issued provisional regularisation certificates by Delhi government and demanded an impartial probe into it.

Following the allegations, Delhi government had issued notices to certain unauthorised colonies which had managed to collect provisional regularisation certificates without having requisite qualification.

Senior officials said government was in the process of scrutinising details of colonies which did not meet mandatory eligibility criteria of having 50 per cent built up areas.

They said government has identified over 100 colonies which do not meet the prescribed conditions for regularisation.

The Delhi government had issued provisional regularisation certificate to 1,639 unauthorised colonies just before assembly polls in 2008 and now has started the process to regularise them.

The Urban Development department, which was directed by Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna and Dikshit to probe the allegations of irregularities in handing over the certificates, has submitted its report in which it mentioned flouting of norms by resident welfare associations of four colonies.

Meanwhile Chief Secretary PK Tripathi today held a meeting with concerned senior officials and understood to have told them to take action against RWAs of unauthorised colonies which misrepresented facts.
