Bihar chief minister condemns Khagaria carnage

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar today condemned the deadly attack by suspected Maoists in Khagaria district and rushed a team led by his deputy SK Modi to the site of the carnage.

 

Modi, accompanied by land and revenue minister Narendra Narayan Yadav and director general of police Anand Shankar flew to Khagaria where the massacre by suspected Maoists took place at Amosi Bharen village late last night leaving sixteen villagers dead.

 

"Violence has no place in society and the incident is highly condemnable. I am sending a ministerial team with the Deputy General of Police who will submit a report to me by afternoon," Kumar told reporters.

 

The chief minister said, prima facie it appeared to be the handiwork of Maoists. "But the state government will take a final view and order an inquiry after getting the report from the team," he confirmed.

 

Kumar announced an ex-gratia of Rs1.5lakh, including Rs50,000 from the CM's relief fund, to families of each of those killed in the attack. In the meanwhile, the Special Task Force has been carrying out a combing operation in the area.
