The Baroda Lions Club Education Trust on Monday evening felicitated the eminent professor of political philosophy and true Barodian by heart, Lord Bhikhu Parekh, at a special function held here.

The felicitation function was held to mark the award of honorary degree of Doctor of Laws by the University of Liverpool, a premier university of UK. This was Lord Parekh's 12th honorary degree. He was also applauded for being elected fellow of the European Academics, a rare honour enjoyed by only half-a-dozen Indian academicians, and being appointed to the global advisory council set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in July this year. Many eminent persons, including educationist KC Mehta, writer Gunvant Shah, NRG minister Jaynarayan Vyas, and MP and mayor Balkrishna Shukla were present at the felicitation function.

Welcoming Lord Parekh, Gunvant Shah gifted his book to him and his wife Pramilaben Parekh. Addressing the audience, Shah said, "Vadodara is the land where the ideas of thought-provoking books of Lord Parekh were born."

He lauded him for being a writer with ruthless objectivity, interpretative originality and fearlessness. Accepting the felicitation, Lord Parekh said, "We have cultivated a protected attitude towards the minority. No community can comment for the other under this attitude. To resolve this attitude, there is a need of political correctness. We need to cultivate mutual faith in each other and should identify ourselves as Indians."
