The Rajasthan High Court today issued notice to the CBI seeking its response on a plea by former BJP leader Shambhu Singh Khetasar, a suspect in Bhanwari Devi murder case, alleging that he is being subjected to illegal interrogation by the agency.

Justice Sangeet Lodha issued notices to the Director and Deputy Director of the CBI along with the investigation officer and a inspector of the CBI seeking reply in 2 weeks while listing the matter for hearing on  May 7.

Khetasar had filed a writ petition in the high court on April 16 objecting to the CBI summoning him everyday "without giving any notice".

His counsel PS Bhati argued in the court that despite filing the charge-sheets and identifying accused in the case, Khetasar was being subjected to "interrogation illegally".

"He is being targeted on the grounds of political rivalry with Mahipal Maderna," Bhati said.

Bhati said "we have cooperated with the investigation and have appeared whenever required but CBI is now taking this cooperation for granted and after summoning on 11 April through notice, the CBI summoned him on 12 April without notice and then reached his residence on 13 April without any information, the day he had left for Ahmedabad for the pending treatment.

"We are ready to cooperate but the CBI will have to go by the rules even when the investigation is almost complete", Bhati added.

Meanwhile, accused Shahabuddin was today taken to his village to attend the wedding of his son amidst tight security.

He left the jail at 11.00 am and was taken back at 2.00 pm in compliance with the direction of the court, which, while rejecting his bail plea, had permitted him 3 hours time to attend the marriage of his son.
