Former Hindutva icon Kalyan Singh today welcomed the Allahabad high court's verdict on Ayodhya title suits saying it has upheld the belief of crores of Hindus that the disputed site was the birth place of Lord Ram.

"I welcome the verdict which has rejected the Sunni Central Waqf Board claims over the land and accepted that it was the birth place of lord Ram, as had been believed by crores of Hindus for ages," Kalyan Singh said.

"The title of Ram Lala has been proved over the land and this has paved the way for the construction of a grand Ram temple at the site," said Singh, who was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh when the Babri Mosque was demolished in 1992.

However, the former BJP leader said he was unable to understand the relevance of the court order allowing Muslims to have one-third of the land and expected that the Hindus would approach the Supreme Court against it now.

Making an appeal to Muslims, Kalyan Singh said after the judgment they should come forward and contribute in temple construction.

Welcoming the verdict in a similar way, another Hindutva leader and BJP vice-president Vinay Katiyar said the ruling has removed all doubts over the claim of Hindus that the disputed site is the birth place of Lord Ram.

"The court has upheld the claims of Hindus that it is the birth place of Lord Ram and the verdict has removed all doubts raised over this belief," Vinay Katiyar said.

Claiming that the dispute over the issue has been resolved with the court's verdict, Katiyar asked Muslims to help in construction of a Ram temple at the site.

"Though Muslims have the option of going to the Supreme Court against the verdict, I appeal to them to make an announcement that the matter is now over and help in construction of the temple, he added.
