The flood situation in Assam remained grim today with the waters of the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries still rising.
     
About two lakh people continued to be affected by the rising water of Brahmaputra and its tributaries, officials here said, adding road communication remained disrupted in various places in worst-affected Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts in upper Assam.
     
Nearly 100 villages in the twin districts were submerged by the Brahmaputra and its tributaries. The situation was also serious in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts of upper Assam.
     
The road link to neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh through Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts has snapped following incessant rainfall.
     
The government has issued instructions to all district headquarters to remain on high alert in view of rising waters.
