Its plea for stay on demolition at Motera was rejected by the district administration.
The district administration has rejected the plea of Asaram Ashram to stay the mamlatdar’s order to demolish the ashram’s structure erected at Motera on encroached land.
Deputy collector, Viramgam, VH Bihol told
DNA, “The collector has rejected the ashram’s plea to stay the mamlatdar order.” With this order, mamlatdar will go ahead with demolition plans. Earlier, Asaram Bapu’s ashram had been ordered to vacate over 67,000 sq metres of land it had allegedly encroached near its Motera ashram.
“Asaram Ashram has been ordered to vacate the encroached land under section 61 of the Land Revenue Code (LRC),” said, Daskoi mamlatdar, Virendrasinh Vala. Under the order, the ashram has been asked to vacate the encroached land within seven days, or else action would be taken against it.
Officials said that under section 202, a short notice would be served on the ashram and if the encroachment is still not removed, the same would be done by the district authorities.
The expense of removing encroachment will have to be borne by the party concerned. Earlier this year, Modi government had admitted in the state assembly that the Asaram Ashram had encroached 67,000 sq metres of land. The state revenue minister, Anandiben Patel, had made the admission.
Several cases of land grabbing by the ashram in Gujarat, particularly in Surat and other districts, came to be reported later. Locals around the ashram in Motera levelled allegations that the ashram had grabbed land belonging to private parties as also the government.
It may be recalled that the state government had issued a notice to the ashram authorities in May this year, asking them to remove the encroachment.
