Did Bashir Ahmed alias Baba's arrest avert a major tragedy for Gujarat?

If those associated with the case are to be believed, Baba had come with a thorough planning to target vital installations in the state.

Sources said that Hizbul Mujahideen has been on the look-out to disturb peace in Gujarat and target vital installations in the state.
They said that an attack on say Amul Dairy in Anand could have result in angry reactions at the national and international level. It should be noted that Anand was one of the worst affected districts during the 2002 post Godhra riots.

"A bomb blast in Amul would be the best thing for them to do to avenge the riots,” said the source.

Attack on Ahmedabad and Vadodara could also have resulted in serious set-back to the economy of the state. "Industrial outfits outside Ahmedabad-Vadodara highway have also been asked to up their security, as we cannot rule out terrorists targeting such units," said a police official. So far security officials have come to know that Ahmedabad, Anand, Bharuch, Nadiad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara were on Hizbul Mujahideen's target list and Baba had conducted a recce of vital installations in these cities.
