It seems that politics has reared its head over the issue of the statement of Raman Patel and Dasharath Patel of Popular Builders in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. The Patel brothers are the whistleblowers in the case and their statements and sting operations led to the arrest of powerful cop Abhay Chudasama, and state home minister Amit Shah.
Now a faction of the Patel community has decided to felicitate Raman and Dasharath for showing exemplary courage against the nexus between the dreaded police officers and politicians of the state. Apparently this move will hint at their support to the Congress party.
The Ahmedabad Patidar Samaj (APS), a faction of the Patel community, has decided to felicitate the brothers at Bapunagar on Sunday. According to Rohit Patel and RC Patel of the APS, "the APS will felicitate Raman Patel and Dasharath Patel for showing brevity and fearless approach against the harassment and pressure of the police and ruling party. The function will be held at the Indulal Yagnik hall at Bapunagar on Sunday."
The leaders further said that, "leaders of the Patel community will be present at the function and show unity in the fight against the forces which are trying to hurt the unity and morale of the Patel community." According to sources, former home minister Gordhan Zadaphia and ex-deputy chief minister and senior Congress leader Narhari Amin are expected to attend the function.
It is pertinent to note that a few organisations of the Patel community have started gathering over the issue of the Patel brothers. The move can also affect political equations in the state as a large chunk of the Patel community is also supporting the BJP.
