Ahmedabad international kite fest from January 10

Ahmedabad will host the international kite festival at Sabarmati Riverfront from January 10 to 14 and it will see participation from a large number of domestic and international kite enthusiasts, a senior government functionary said on Wednesday.

“The kite festival will see participation of 120 kite flyers from eight states and 74 foreign kite flyers,” tourism minister Jaynarayan Vyas said.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event in presence of Governor Dr Kamla, he said.

Sanjay Kaul, MD, Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited, said theme pavilion depicting history of kites, food court, craft bazaar and adventure sports are some of the special attractions planned for this year. Vipul Mitra, principal secretary, tourism department, said road-shows will be held in Mumbai, Delhi and other places in the run-up to the kite festival.

“The kite festival will also be held at Mandvi beach and at Dhordo in Kutch on January 13, while the invited kite flyers will fly kites in pols of Ahmedabad on January 14,” he added.
