Cops are going to descend on a city multiplex on Tuesday morning to watch the special screening of Bollywood blockbuster Singham. With this Gujarat will, perhaps, become the only state in the country, where the police department has widely appreciated this movie.

Till now, three commissionerates - Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara - had arranged for the special screening of the movie. Police commissioner Sudhir Sinha has asked all the police stations to send cops to the multiplex by 11:30 am.

Sinha told DNA, “We had heard about the film’s screening in Surat and other cities. But, in Ahmedabad, we got a chance when multiplex owners approached us with a sponsorship offer, and only then, we decided to go for it. Although I’ve not seen the movie as yet, I guess police need to be sensitised time and again which this movie does.”

Police officers say that the movie, based on a police inspector (Ajay Devgn) and the difficulties he faces in performing his duties has many similarities to the problems they face in real life. They say that the police can easily connect with the movie.

Rakesh Asthana, police commissioner, Surat, said: “After we screened the movie, I heard relatives of police officials asking them to be honest. The police department has been portrayed nicely in the movie which is a motivation for us. This was the whole idea behind arranging a special screening for cops.”
