The request for gangster Abdul Wahab's jail transfer is now taking the form of a controversy. Wahab's family is seeing the request as part of a larger conspiracy to eliminate him, the same way Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsi Prajapati were killed.

Wahab's relatives on Saturday, objecting to the crime branch's request to shift Wahab to another jail, told the special CID magistrate that the crime branch is planning to eliminate Wahab through a staged encounter, the same way Sohrabuddin and Tulsi Prajapati were killed.

While speaking to DNA, Wahab's brother Rafiq said that when they came to know about the police's request to have Wahab transferred to another jail, they approached the court on Friday.

"When we reached the court, two jail authorities had come to seek the court's permission to transfer Wahab to another jail. They said that Wahab is a threat to senior cops and former home minister Amit Shah lodged in the same jail. However, we reached there on time," Rafiq added.

"When the authorities made this allegation, we informed the court that as Wahab is presently lodged in a high security zone. To enter the area, one needs special permission of the jail superintendent and also needs to enter their name in the register maintained to record exit and entry. In these circumstances, Wahab cannot be a threat to anyone in the jail," Rafiq explained.

The family then told the court that when Wahab's advocate Salim Hakim had gone to meet the gangster in jail, Wahab had expressed fears of being eliminated by crime branch officials in a manner similar to Tulsi Prajapati's staged encounter. "The court, hearing our request, observed that in any case, Wahab is merely an accused, against whom the chargesheet has not been filed yet.

In such cases, the court also does not have powers to transfer him to another jail," Rafiq added. The court has now adjourned the case to August 24 for further hearing, where Wahab will also be brought before the court.
