In a complaint lodged with the city police (Bhuj) on Wednesday, a 75-year-old woman has accused her sister's daughter's son, Azad Yusuf Siddi, 25, of raping her.

She has stated in her complaint that she was living with her sister near Khari Naddi on the outskirts of the city. She was alone at home when the accused, who lives near a temporary settlement for the quake-hit people, GIDC, came to the house between 2.30 and 3pm on May 1 and raped her.

JK Maiyar, PSI investigating the case, told DNA on Wednesday night that the accused had been arrested and would be produced before the Bhuj judicial magistrate on Thursday.

When asked why the victim lodged the complaint belatedly, the police officer said that the victim's sister had gone to Surendranagar with other family members and since she was handicapped and alone, she was unable to move out of the house and therefore had to wait for her sister's return.

The police officer said that the victim was admitted to a government hospital and the semen test confirmed that the aged and infirm woman had been raped.
