About 50 activists of self-styled Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, including its chief, were today rearrested after being released even as tension prevailed in the region.

HSGPC chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda and president of its youth wing Kanwaljit Singh Ajrana along with several leaders of the outfit were yesterday taken into custody while 20 activists were rounded up in Ambala after supporters threatened to take over key gurdwaras while pressing for a separate SGPC for the state.

The leaders were released last night after hundreds of activists had seized the Kurukshetra railway junction paralysing the rail traffic for about four hours halting about a dozen passenger, express and goods trains on the Ambala-Delhi track, demanding immediate release of Jhinda and Ajrana.

After their release, the activists marched towards the Chhavin Patshahi Gurudwara where they sat on a dharna after they were not allowed access to it by policemen.

The traffic was diverted from the Gurudwara road to another road and nobody was allowed to move towards the Gurudwara last night.

Jhinda and Ajrana were taken into the custody in the wee hours today from near Chhavin Patshahi gurudwara on Pehowa road.

The traffic has been restored on Pehowa road, officials said.

Tension prevails in the area after the arrest of HSGPC leaders.
