At least 40 cows have died in Uttar Pradesh in a suspected case of fodder poisoning by unidentified persons in Bhagwatipur village at Mandawar area in Bijnor, police said today.
The cows, that were found dead late Wednesday, were part of a cattle shelter which was ignored after the caretaker died earlier this month, they said, adding the carcasses have been sent for post-mortem.
Several activists from religious organisations had yesterday reached the spot, demanding proper investigation and action against the culprits.
