2G probe: CBI quizzes Videocon’s Venugopal Dhoot

The agency is probing the transactions of Datacom Services (now Videocon), which got a second generation mobile telephony spectrum licence in January 2008.

The CBI on Monday questioned Videocon chairperson Venugopal Dhoot and Rajkumar Dhoot in connection with its probe in the second generation mobile telephony spectrum allocation scam in Delhi. Rajkumar Dhoot, Veugopal’s brother, is a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra.

The agency is probing the transactions of Datacom Services (now Videocon), which got a second generation mobile telephony spectrum licence in January 2008. The Videocon Group holds 64% in the mobile services provider, while Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd promoter Mahendra Nahata has a 36% stake, a CBI official said.

“We suspect Nahata acted as a front for Videocon,” a CBI official told DNA.
