Tamil Nadu govt files defamation against Ramaswamy for his alleged remarks against CM Jayalalithaa

In his complaint filed on behalf of the Chief Minister, City Public Prosecutor M L Jegan submitted that the speech of Ramaswamy against Jayalalithaa and her administration about the distribution of flood relief, circulated through Whats App during the floods, was highly defamatory.

    Tamil Nadu government on Monday filed a criminal defamation complaint against social activist "Traffic" Ramaswamy for his alleged remarks against Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa during the torrential and floods.

    In his complaint filed on behalf of the Chief Minister, City Public Prosecutor M L Jegan submitted that the speech of Ramaswamy against Jayalalithaa and her administration about the distribution of flood relief, circulated through Whats App during the floods, was highly defamatory.

    The speech was disparaging, insinuating and highly provocative and had been made deliberately with an intention to cause harm to her reputation and the administration, it was submitted. They constitute an offence under IPC section 499 (defamation) and sec 500 (punishment for defamation), Jagan submited.

    The case was posted for hearing.
