Sidelined by BJP, Yashwant Sinha roped in to mentor AAP govt for Delhi Budget

Delhi government has co-opted Sinha to hold orientation programme for Delhi Finance Minister, Finance Secretary & MLAs on budget & budget making process on March 15, said a report in a leading business daily.

In a major embarrassment for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has roped in senior BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha to mentor party leaders for the upcoming Delhi Budget.

The Delhi government has co-opted Sinha to hold an orientation programme for the Delhi Finance Minister, Finance Secretary & MLAs on budget & budget making process on 15 March, said a report in a leading business daily.

AAP's Delhi Dialogue Commission has been in touch with Sinha for 'broad suggestions' on the Budget, which is to be presented on March 28, the report added.

It also said that the Sinha has accepted the invitation to talk to the members about the processes and procedures of Budget-making.

"Sinha is the best person to interact with legislators, most of whom are first-timers," reported the daily quoting Secretary of Delhi Legislative Assembly Prasanna Kumar Suryadevara,

For 2016-17, the Centre has allocated Rs 758 crore to the Delhi government.

Earlier, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had said that the government will spend 25% of its annual budget on the education sector, taking up majors steps towards quality education by focusing on training programmes and physical infrastructure.  

In the 2015-16 Budget, the AAP government had allocated Rs 9,836 crore for the education sector, out of which Rs 4,570 crore was given under the plan outlay, an increase of around 106%.

Earlier in January, Sinha had criticised the different yardsticks for different leaders when it came to choosing the party's Rajya Sabha nominees and mocked the concept of 'margdarshak mandal', to which veterans have been relegated.
