Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday appreciated Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for his contribution towards the national cleaning campaign Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Khan was nominated by Modi himself to participate in the nationwide movement.

The Prime Minister appreciated Salman Khan for his efforts by posting a congratulatory message on Twitter.

Salman Khan initiated a clean-up campaign in Kajrat. He also painted a village named Hatluni during the shooting of Kabir Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijan along with the co-star Kareena Kapoor. Salman and the Bajrangi Bhaijan cast and crew accompained by some proffesional painters every house in the village.

The actor also took to Facebook on Republic Day to voice his plan of nominating around 100 followers every month for the clean India campaign. He said, “The Honorable Prime Minister nominated me for the Swachh Bharat campaign and I have cleaned and painted three villages in Maharashtra so far. I intend to continue with this initiative, but Swachh Bharat is not about what one of us can do. It’s about what each of us can do. So today, on Republic Day, I am taking this campaign social. I will nominate 100 followers a month for Swachh Bharat. Please start a sustainable Swachh Bharat initiative in and around your area of work or residence or both. Upload your before and after pictures or videos. Five of the best initiatives will get special mention on my Facebook page and also win a prize each. Kya bolte ho? Shuru karein? First list will be up tomorrow."

The Clean India campaign or the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was started by the Prime Minister on October 2, 2014 as a nationwide cleaning campaign.
