Chief minister Narendra Modi, who is known to be a man of varied interests, is also known to possess a taste for good living. That maybe why he is getting his official bungalow tastefully renovated. 

Modi has two bungalows — bungalow no.1 and bungalow no.26. While he lives in bungalow no. 1, he uses the other one for official work. Now, the CM has shifted to bungalow no.26 as the bungalow no.1 is under massive renovation.

According to highly placed sources in the state government, though the exact estimates are yet to come, it is expected that the renovation expenses will cross
Rs1 crore.

There are three major areas of work planned for the bungalow - new airconditioners worth Rs30 lakh, furniture worth Rs33 lakh, and a digital audio system worth Rs13.5 lakh. Besides, a new modern committee room has already been built, the CM’s bedroom made specious, and the entry passage changed.

Moreover, the doors have been changed, bathrooms, floorings and roofings have been renovated, and new electric work done.  The whole bungalow will be painted with acrylic paint.

"The interior of the whole bungalow will change.  Once the CM approves the design, the work will start,’’ the source said.

Some changes have been made to strengthen the security at the bungalow. There will be new landscaping of the garden in the bungalow to enhance the overall aesthetic sense of the premises.

Once the bungalow no-1 is ready, work for the bungalow no-26 will be taken up.

In addition to the work at the CM’s bungalow, the government will also spend Rs.5.76 crore on renovating the bungalows of other ministers.

About Rs50 lakh to Rs55 lakh will be spent on the renovation of each bungalow.

"Further Rs7.5 crore will be allocated very soon as tenders have already been allocated,’’ the sources said.  Also, the government plans to build around 52 new bungalows each of which will cost Rs1 crore.
