Digvijay Singh, considered to be one of the closest aides of Rahul Gandhi has spoken out against the Congress Vice-President. According to Digvijay, Rahul's lack of action made it easier for Narendra Modi led BJP to launch a negative campaign against UPA government.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh speaking to a prominent newspaper candidly acknowledged that Congress lost the battle of perception. According to him, 63 year old Narendra Modi attracted the youth, whereas 44 year old leader i.e. Rahul Gandhi failed to do it. This is probably the most stinging indictment of Rahul gandhi which has come from a person percieved to be extremely close to the first family of Congress. However, Digvijay Singh doesn't have any doubt about Rahul gandhi's right to be the leader of the grand old party. According to him, the whole party is behind him and Rahul needs to recalibrate his strategy and should be “more visible and heard more”  to bring Congress back on track.

Digvijay believes the party failed to highlight its achievements which he claims was substantially greater than what NDA achieved during Vajpayee rule. He feels Rahul Gandhi missed a trick there. He believes that Rahul should have formally led the party to the Lok Sabha polls which would have considerably helped Congress blunt the Modi wave.
