Under the BJP rule in Uttar Pradesh, anyone who dares to show black flag to the Chief Minister Adityanath will be denied admissions in state universities! The Lucknow University has denied admissions to more than 20 such students in PG courses, who had shown black flags to the Chief Minister last year when he visited the varsity campus.

A group of students, belonging to AISA and Samajwadi Party Yuvjan Sabha, had breached the security and stopped the cavalcade of the Chief Minister on June 7 last year to show him black flags and raised ‘go back’ slogans. Later, they had held a demonstration in the campus in protest against CM’s visit.

The police had arrested about 11 of them after the incident. Later, the University authorities had expelled 8 students from the varsity. The LU Vice Chancellor S.P. Singh claimed more than 20 others had given a written undertaking not to seek admissions in PG course as a condition to revoke their expulsion and allow them to complete their undergraduate courses.

But despite the undertaking, these students gave admissions tests and sought admission in PG courses. “We have withheld results of over 20 such students who have violated the undertaking,” said the LU PRO N.K. Pandey.

The students, who were denied admissions in PG, however, alleged harassment by the LU administration at the behest of the Yogi Adityanath government. A few among them have begun fast unto death if not allowed admissions.

“It was an infringement on the right to education. The varsity administration is encroaching on our democratic right to pursue further studies,” charged Gaurav Tripathi.  Pooja Shukla, who was not studying in LU at the time of protest, was also denied admission in the varsity in PG course. Both were among those who had showed black flags to the CM and languished in jail for many months.
