Girl allegedly tortured by three people in West Bengal

A girl, working as a maid, was allegedly tortured and molested following which three people were arrested in West Bengal's Howrah district, police said on Tuesday.

Originally from Assam, the victim was working in the house of the accused, named Dipak Das, at Chatterjeehat Avinash Banerjee lane for the last six months.

On Saturday, following an incident of theft in the home, the girl was allegedly tortured by Das and two women from his family. Das allegedly attempted to molest her after which the girl tried to commit suicide by consuming poison, according to the police.

After the incident, the victim whose condition was serious, was admitted to the Howrah district hospital, where she later gave the police a statement about the incident and filed a first information report (FIR). The three people arrested are currently being interrogated by the police.
