GCPA members clashed with the police at the New Cooch Behar railway station in West Bengal on Tuesday while police tried to remove the protesting agitators.

Train services were disrupted for the fourth day as members of Greater Cooch Behar People's Association (GCPA) put up a rail blockade at New Cooch Behar station. The protest were held in the wake of a demand for C category statehood or Union Territory status for the Cooch Behar district in West Bengal. Three passengers have died in the four-day long protest.

According to ANI, GCPA protesters were forcefully evicted by Police from the railway tracks.

On Tuesday, the District Magistrate reached the station and spoke on a mic, requesting agitators to disperse and withdraw their protest. Unfazed by repeated warnings, the agitators continued to block rail lines on its fourth day.

Later, the leader of Greater Cooch Behar People's Association Bhabesh Barman was arrested by the police. Police officials, including district officials like District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police have been deployed at the spot to maintain the law and order situation.

Despite the blockade being removed by the police, other leaders of GCPA said that they would not withdraw their movement and will continue to protest unless officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs engage in a dialogue with them.

Meanwhile, several trains had to be diverted to other routes and some services were terminated. North Frontier Railway officials claimed that the train services could return to normal by Tuesday night.
