The prestigious Cannes Film Festival has become infamous over the years for its high-heels-only policy, with actresses of the likes of Julia Roberts and Kristen Stewart taking a stand against it. In a silent rebellion at the recently held 71st Cannes Film Festival; Kristen came, posed, kicked off her Christian Louboutin heels and casually walked the rest of the red-carpet barefoot on her way to a screening of Spike Lee’s film “BlacKkKlansman.” Although Stewart, who was a member of the film festival’s jury this year, didn't confirm whether she removed her heels in protest of the French festival's rule forbidding women from wearing flats, it was assumed that she did it on purpose as she has spoken in the past against the arcane dress code.
The 28-year-old has been a vocal critic of the red carpet's policy. Last year, during a roundtable conversation at the event, Stewart had reportedly said, "Things have to change immediately. It's just like you simply cannot ask me to do something that you are not asking him [to do]. I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version, flats or heels."
She is being applauded by the Twitterverse for her act, ever since. "Red carpet at #Cannes or not, sometimes the heels have just gotta go. #KristenStewart" wrote one user. Another user tweeted, "Hooray for #KristenStewart taking off her high heels at Cannes, what a ludicrous rule! What is this the Dark Ages? Bravo!"

Good on #KristenStewart to call out the ridiculous high heels rule at #Cannes. Surely you don't need to torture your feet to celebrate art.

Women having been standing on their own two feet since forever.
We don’t need heels.
Speaking for a gender.
