Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns have unveiled that the upcoming sequel in the franchise will be set in the year 1984.

Johns, DC chief creative officer, shared a picture on Facebook which read "WW84," suggesting the setting of the Gal Gadot-led movie.

The first Wonder Woman film was set in 1917 during World War I.

Jenkins also changed the background of her Twitter account to feature the logo.

The director-actor duo is returning for the sequel set against the backdrop of the Cold War.

Wonder Woman 2 will see Kristen Wiig play villain Cheetah. Narcos star Pedro Pascal is among the new entrants to the franchise.

It is being speculated that the second stand-alone movie for the DC superhero will be set in the time of Cold War. It is mostly tied with Wiig's casting as Barbara Minerva -- Cheetah's alias. According to Nerdist, '80s were the era when writer-artist George Perez revamped the character and influence of that version of Diana Prince is prominently visible in the first Wonder Woman movie. Therefore it is quite possible that the second film will be inspired by the same story arch.

Another speculation is that we will be taken on a trip to Diana's past when the world was suffering with Cold War and she was part of some mission that might have stopped nuclear launch.

Jenkins, Johns and Dave Callaham have co-written the script. Will they unveil a few more details when San Diego Comic-Con begins? We hope so.

Warner Bros has set the film's release date for November 1, 2019.
