With Delhi facing its worst season of air pollution, a new therapy is helping people to fight the ill effects of pollution. Salt Room Therapy, a steroid and inhaler free approach to address respiratory conditions, has turned up as one of the most effective solutions to control and treat chronic disorders.

Dr Shivani Gupta, consulting doctor at Salt Room Therapy (SRT) India, “Patients sitting in the salt room inhale the sterile air carrying micro particles of salt. As these salt particles reach the nasal cavity they escape the nasal passage, the airways of the lungs and penetrate deep into the smallest air sacs of the lungs called bronchioles, and react with the mucous present there.  This helps in reducing inflammation in the whole respiratory tract, absorbing water from the mucous lining the airways. As the mucous melts this helps widening of the airway passages, restoring the normal transport of mucus and unclogging blockages in the lungs, allowing rapid elimination of the residual tar and foreign allergens in a natural process.”

The therapy did wonders for Priyanka, whose four-year-old daughter was suffering from breathing problem and was on inhalers for last two years. After taking eight sessions of the therapy, she went off the inhalers and medicines.

“My four-year-old daughter, Varnika was suffering from Breathing Airway Disease since she was one, and was on inhalers for two years. After just few sessions of the salt room therapy, she was completely off the inhalers and medicines,” she said.

According to the experts, the demand for Salt Room Therapy has increased many folds over past few months due to alarming level of pollution in Delhi-NCR. From infants, youngsters, adults and elderly, Salt Room Therapy is offering relief from asthma to all age groups

“Dangerously high level of pollution has taken a toll on the respiratory health of the people. Not just older people and the children, but youths and apparently healthy people are also falling prey to rising pollution in the NCR region. With the onset of winters, when respiratory problem aggravates due to smog, treatment like Salt Room Therapy which is natural form of treatment can provide symptomatic relief to the patients suffering from respiratory problems,” said Dr Animesh Ray, pulmonologist, Fortis Vasant Kunj.

While therapy helped a four-year-old toddler, it proved equally beneficial for an elderly homemaker, Kanchan Anand who said, “I have been suffering from asthma for past fifty years and you can imagine my quality of life. But after forty sessions in the salt room, for the first time in my life I can breathe easily, not scared of breathing anymore.”

Apart from being extremely effective, this unique drug-free therapy has zero side effects and is absolutely safe. Based on clinical studies, it has been proved that the inhaled salty air has bactericidal, anti-inflammatory properties.
