Though Shruti did an item number in Mahesh Babu’s 'Aagadu', 'Srimanthudu' is her first lead role opposite the Telugu star.
Shruti Haasan couldn’t be happier at the moment. Her latest release in Telugu and Tamil (dubbed), Srimanthudu, has turned out to be a blockbuster. Grossing more than Rs. 50 crore on the opening weekend, her film with the Prince of Tollywood, Mahesh Babu, is the talk of town.
Just back from Dubai, Shruti is travelling again to shoot for her upcoming films. Currently, working in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films, the actress has been quite busy. She has seen a string of hits in Telugu already, including Gabbar Singh, Balupu, Yevadu and Race Gurram. Srimanthudu is the latest in this list.
Ask her how she feels now that Srimanthudu has been declared a superhit and Shruti says, “It makes me extremely happy and proud to be a part of a project that has both box-office numbers and critical acclaim! It feels great to have another hit.”
The actress plays Charuseela in the film, a character quite different from the others she has essayed so far. Says Shruti, “It was a pleasure playing Charusheela. I always strive to play parts that aren't similar to my previous roles and this time is no exception. Charuseela is strong, independent and calm. She brings a lot to the plot line in the film.”
Though Shruti did an item number in Mahesh Babu’s Aagadu, this is her first lead role opposite the Telugu star. “He's an absolute pleasure to work with. Down to earth, chilled out, extremely focused and hard working— such a great combination. He's also one of the most handsome men ever!” says Shruti.
Shruti is also a talented singer and has sung for some of her Hindi and Tamil films. In fact, she has sung a song with actor Vijay for her upcoming Tamil film with him. So why isn’t she singing more in Telugu? “You'll have to ask the composers,” smiles Shruti.
Currently, she’s in talks for some Telugu projects and says she will announce them once they have been officially signed. As for now, she’s excited and looking forward to the release of her first film with Vijay titled Puli.
