Katy Perry admits divorce from Russell Brand left her 'shattered'

Katy Perry has revealed that she took quite an emotional beating after her surprise divorce from former husband Russell Brand in 2011.

During an interview with Sunday Times, the 28-year-old American singer admitted that she was in an emotionally low phase after her split from the 38-year-old British comedian and she remained in bed for about two weeks, the New York Post reported.

The ‘Roar’ singer said that she felt “punched in the face and kicked down the stairs a couple of times”, but she channeled her pain into her new album, Prism, which she initially wanted to name Adult Reality.

The girlfriend of musician John Mayer added that her song By the Grace of God is autobiographical as it was inspired by the post-split phase when she was “down and out and had lost hope”

Brand had blindsided Perry with divorce papers in December 2011 after 14 months of marriage. Their divorce was finalised in February 2012.
