The board sub-committee of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has finally zeroed down on the fares for travel on Metro from Byappanahalli to MG Road-Reach 1.

The BMRCL has four forms of ticketing systems for Namma Metro:
Contactless Smart Tokens (CST), Contactless Smart Cards (CSC) — stored value ticket (Varshik) and trip tickets (Sanchar), Group tickets, and Integrated Metro bus ticket.

CSTs are swiped at the station’s entry gate and dropped into the slot at the exit gate. Tickets will be available at the ticket counters. Each token is for a single journey only. A person can procure up to six tokens for five additional passengers travelling with him. A passenger has to carry the token with him while travelling.

CSCs are available at stations for multiple journeys and provide discounted fares in the form of stored value tickets and trip tickets. The CSC will be available at a cost of Rs50.

After purchasing the CSC, the commuter can load Varshik or Sanchar or both tickets in the same CSC to the required number value or trips.

Stored value tickets or the Varshik has money value stored in it and gets deducted based on the number of journeys made. Varshik is valid for one year from the date of last ‘Add Value’.

Apart from Metro stations, adding value denomination to Varshik will be possible through ATMs/Net banking/mobile banking of the State Bank of India, BMRCL website, and  scratch cards through SMS.

The date of uploading through the BMRCL website and scratch cards through SMS will be notified separately. A trip ticket (Sanchar) has a fixed number of trips (10, 40, 50, or 100 trips) stored in it. One trip is a journey with an entry followed by an exit from a station.

Trips can be purchased in advance for journeys between any two stations and this is beneficial for commuters travelling to certain places regularly (eg office goers, students etc), as these tickets are available at discounts ranging from 5 per cent to 10 per cent over Varshik rates.

These trips can also be used between other stations having the same or less fares. Sanchar 10 is valid for 1 month, Sanchar 40 and 50 are valid for 3 months and Sanchar 100 is valid for 6 months from the date of last ‘Add Trip’.

Group tickets in the form of paper tickets are issued to a group of minimum of 10 passengers travelling together between the same set of stations. These tickets are checked at separate entry/exit gates at the stations. These tickets are discounted at 10 per cent of token fare for each passenger.

The BMRCL and BMTC are jointly introducing the daily pass—the integrated Metro-Bus ticket (MBT pass) to enable passengers to perform unlimited journeys in Namma Metro and BMTC buses for the day. These are available in BMTC buses and Metro stations. Passengers have to purchase the CSCs  to avail this facility.

There are two categories of MBT pass: Saral (Rs110) and Saraag (Rs70). Passengers can make use of the Saral ticket to avail both Metro and BMTC bus services ( except Airport services). With the Saraag ticket, a passenger can commute in the BMTC’s non-air-conditioned buses and Metro.
