The Bangalore city police, for the first time, are preparing to detain three foreign drug pedlars under the Goonda Act.

The police want to detain two Nigerians and a Kenyan under the provision of Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum Grabbers Act, 1985 (Goonda Act).

They are seeking the opinion of an advisory committee, consisting of high court judges, to detain the foreign nationals under the Goonda Act.

The move comes after the CCB police arrested a notorious drug supplier of Nigerian origin, Martin En Duke, 31, on Saturday at Subbayyana Palya near Banasawadi. He was arrested for the third time for allegedly peddling cocaine in the city. Duke’s associate Albert Mahama, also a Nigerian and Kenyan Pappajo alias Joseph Ouma Achol, 39, could face the Goonda Act. Police said the three persons are actively involved in peddling cocaine in the city.

Joint commissioner of police (crime), Alok Kumar said they had sent a proposal to advisory committee. “We will detain them soon after the advisory committee gives its consent,” he said. Kumar said every time the accused are arrested, they come out on bail and continue indulging in the crime. Their activities are proving dangerous to the health of the society, he said.
