The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is now all set to accept your property tax payments online. The civic body has resolved the technical glitches attached to the software and updated the online application form facilitating the payment of solid waste cess too.

Citizens can visit the Palike’s official website (http://www.bbmp.gov.in/) and pay property tax by following the instructions given there. DNA had on April 6, 2011 reported that glitches on the BBMP website had made online payment of property tax impossible.

Speaking to DNA, BBMP deputy commissioner (revenue) NS Ramakanth said online payment of property tax for 2011-12 has evoked good response, within a couple of days of the facility’s activation. “About 4,000 members have paid property tax in the last two days. In all, about 15,000 property owners have paid the tax this year. This includes manual payments too,” he said.

Ramakanth also said the good news was that no transaction charges will be levied on card users for making online payment. “Tax-payers can pay property tax online for the year 2011-12, if the details for 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 are available online. The payment gateway is facilitated by IDBI Bank,” he said.

It may be noted that the BBMP started the property tax collection from April 1 for the financial year 2011-12. The Palike said those property owners who pay the property tax for the complete year in one instalment within April 30 would get a rebate of 5%.

However, those who sought to pay the property tax online found that the facility was not working.

Those opting to pay the property tax in two instalments should pay the first instalment by May 30 and the second instalment between October 1 and November 29. Delay in the property tax payment would invite a 2% penal interest every month.
