Mallika was sentenced to death by the Fast Track Court in Tumkur for murdering a 60-year-old woman at Chikkakoratagere in December 2007.

Seven other murder cases registered against the convict, known as Cyanide Mallika, are in different stages of trial.

On December 10, 2007, Yashodamma (60), wife of late Kodandarama, was murdered in a rented room near Kempamma temple in Chikkakoratagere.

Mallika had sweet-talked Yashodamma into performing mandala puja to get rid of her asthma. The lady was administered cyanide while she was performing the puja with her eyes shut. Malliak escaped with her victim’s gold jewellery. This case was registered at the Kyatasandra police in Tumkur.

Mallika had committed her first murder in October 1999. According to her confession, Mamatha (30), wife of Rajanna, was murdered on October 29, 1999. The woman was killed at her Hoskote residence. Mallika had befriended the victim with her sweet talk at Jalageramma Temple, and convinced her that a puja would solve all her problems.

A credulous Mamatha took the woman home, and instead of performing the puja, Mallika killed her by administering cyanide.

Rajamma, a resident of Boodakatte village in Bidadi, was taken to Jalageramma temple on the pretext of solving her family problems. Mallika was caught by Rajamma’s relatives, while trying to flee with the victim’s jewellery. However, the relatives never realised that Mallika had administered cyanide to Rajamma. Mallika murdered Jayamma (53), a nurse with the ESI Hospital at Lashkar Mohalla in Mysore on
September 5, 2007. Jayamma was taken there on the pretext of solving her
problems.

On December 7, 2006, Mallika killed Renuka (26) near Kaivara Thathaiah Ashrama. Mallika befriended Renuka’s sister and stayed with them in Bilekahalli on Bannerghatta Road.

Elizabeth (52), wife of late Joseph Babu, was murdered on November 1, 2007. Mallika had taken the woman to Kabbalamma temple in Sathnur, on the pretext of performing a puja. Elizabeth was made to believe that the puja would bring back her missing grandchild. Mallika killed Elizabeth in a rented room in Santhnur and escaped with the victim’s mobile and gold jewellery.

On December 17 the same year, Pillamma (60), wife of Kempaiah, was killed in a rented room in Vaidyanatheswara temple in Maddur. The victim was a priestess of Chikkakempamma temple. Mallika had promised Pillamma that she would contribute a dome to Chikkakempamma temple, similar to the one at Vaidyanatheswara temple. She was taken to the temple to see the dome and was killed while praying. Next, Nagaveni (30), wife of Guruswamy, a resident of Allalasandra was killed in Ghatisubramanya temple in Doddaballapura.
