Hearing the petition of a BJP MLA whose name figures in the complaint of advocate Sirajin Basha—who has taken former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa to court over corruption charges—the Karnataka High Court issued a notice to Basha on Friday.

The HC issued the notice while hearing the petition of Hemachandra Sagar, BJP MLA from Chickpet. The petitioner is a surgeon and the chairman of Sagar Health Groups. He has contended that Basha, in his private complaint before the Lok Ayukta special court, has accused him of paying Rs3.35 crore to a firm of the former chief minister’s relatives in lieu of denotification of a piece of land.

Basha’s complaint stated that Sagar Health Care and Diagnostic had paid the amount to Sahyadri Health Care and Diagnostic Private Ltd, whose directors are kith and kin of Yeddyurappa. Basha alleged that Sagar had given the money to repay the favour wherein the then CM had denotifed the land, survey no. 121 in Uttarahalli.

The BJP MLA stated in his petition that there was no truth in Basha’s allegation and it was aimed at maligning his reputation. He further stated that his company had never paid any money to companies that Basha mentioned. Also, he contended that the special court had issued summons to him without verifying the claims of Basha’s complaint. The complaint was filed on August 20 this year and the summons was issued to Sagar, asking him to appear in the court on August 29.

Basha had, after getting sanction from the governor, on January 21 filed five complaints against the then chief minister Yeddyurappa, his sons and son-in-law RN Sohan Kumar. Each complaint was related to three instances of denotification of land in and around Bangalore.
