Monday evening, there was supposed to be a grand music launch of Dhandam Dashagunam, the Kannada remake of Tamil superhit Kaakha Kaakha. But, it ended up being a damp squib, owing to a quarrel between the producer, A Ganesh, and the film’s heroine, Ramya. As it turns out, money seems to be the issue between the warring parties.

The actress’s absence from the event was more than conspicuous. Producer Ganesh, who seemed to be quite angry with that, says, “It is completely unfair and unprofessional on her part to not be present at this do. Everyone is here to promote it; it is the first big promotional event, prior to the film’s April release.”

He further added, “I even took a loan and paid Ramya her entire remuneration of Rs32 lakh, before the release of the film itself. Despite that and my personal invite that was sent to her residence, she chose not to attend the function.”

The event had the film chamber president, Basant Kumar Patil, present as well. He tried telephoning and texting Ramya to find out the reason for her absence, but to no avail. DNA did some snooping around and learnt that the actress stayed away from the function, in spite of being back from her Europe trip well in time for it, because, according to her, the producer owes her money.

We’ve learnt that, in a complaint sent to the film chamber, Ramya has alleged that the producer  borrowed money from her to complete the film, which hasn’t been returned. Confirming this, Patil said, “Although Ramya hasn’t replied to my messages or calls yet, I did get a letter from her stating that the producer owes her money, which was the reason why she chose to stay away from the audio release.”

Ramya, on the other hand, has refrained from talking about the issue and said she’d wait for the authorities to take up the case and resolve it before giving her statement to the media.
