It was his trademark dialogues that helped ‘Rajinikanth’ survive the Air Crash and land safe with a parachute at PES School of Engineering’s inter-collegiate fest, Maaya 2010.

The contest that tests students’ communication skills and knowledge of current affairs found Shezaad Iqbal, a second year aeronautical engineering student of Shanthi Charitable Trust Institute of Technology, who mimicked the South Indian superstar, emerge as an audience favourite.

“I did not expect the first prize. The competition tested our knowledge about the superstar as well as our histrionic skills,” said Shezaad, adding that the event was a perfect stress buster after the examinations.

“Air Crash has been a popular event. Students don roles of celebrities travelling in a plane that is about to crash. They have to convince the judges why they deserve the parachute and why they should survive,” said Priyakshi Kachroo, student co-ordinator of Maaya 2010.

The fest featured over 25 cultural events and 10 technical events. New events this year were T-10 cricket, mock rock and a fashion show.

Over five bands entertained the student crowd, and Twisted Nail, the official band of PESSE, released its music CD on the occasion.

The organisers said that gaming competitions were the hot favourites this year. Over 70 colleges participated in the fest despite some colleges having internal exams. On the whole, it was a perfect day to chill out in the summer heat.
