Sri Kumaran’s school (ICSE), Bangalore has won Texas Instruments Science & Technology Quiz 2010.

In a nail-biting final round, the Texas Instruments Science & Technology Quiz 2010 five teams battled it out to emerge as winners of the five day, five city event, which ended on Sunday in Bangalore.

Subham Nandy and Athith K, class 10 students from Sri Kumaran’s ICSE emerged national winners after facing stiff competition from the regional winners.

Little Flowers High School, Hyderabad and Delhi Public School, Noida, finished second and third, respectively.

“The key is to be in tune with current affairs. It involves a lot of reading and research. Right from reading books, to researching on the internet, it is important to absorb as much information as possible,” said the winning duo.

Incidentally, they were last years’ winners as well and took part in the competition this year to get a higher score than last year. The questions are getting tougher by the year, and the level of the competition is heightening as well, said the regular quizzers.

Runners- up Shashank Reddy and Syed Multuzahashmi, from Little Flowers High School, Hyderabad, felt that preparation for the quiz was a continuous process. “It is how well you apply what you learn at school,” said Reddy.

“It amazes me, how much youngsters are capable of. Every year, the competition is intensifying. It is because the exposure available is so vast, and students are keenly aware of all that his happening,” said quizmaster Ochintya Sharma.

He advised student quizzers to think out-of-the-box. “It is important to have a spirit of enquiry. Secondly, we want them to inculcate the habit of thinking, rather than rote learning,” he added.

The annual event is an initiative to provide a platform for students from class 8, 9 and 10 to test their skills of enquiry and quick thinking.
