The parents of a 24-year-old bartender, who suffered a fatal fall on Monday, held the police responsible for the death of their son.

The police denied the allegation and said the man, Harish, slipped and fell off the third floor of the bar on Inner Ring Road in Domlur. He was drunk, the police claimed.

Harish’s parents, however, maintained that the police had chased him on Sunday night and he suffered the fall while trying to evade arrest.

The deceased was a native of Mallahalli in Hassan district’s Channarayapatna taluk.

Former president of Byadarahalli gram panchayat in Hassan, MN Bore Gowda also said that the youth had slipped off the building while trying to escape the police. Gowda arrived in the city after hearing about the death.

Gowda claimed that the bar owner had contacted Harish’s brother Sridhar and said the bartender was chased by the police around 11.30pm on Sunday.

The Airport police maintained that Harish was drunk and sleeping on the third floor of the building. When he woke up around 3.45am, he slipped and fell to the ground, they said, adding that the deceased man’s family was also suspecting his colleagues.
Police added that they were informed of the incident by a watchman attached to the bar.

Gowda added that Harish’s parents Deve Gowda and Lalithamma fell unconscious after they had been informed of the death, and were undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Harish’s body has been kept in the Bowring Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination, which would be conducted after his parents’ arrival. Police said the cause of death would be revealed in the post-mortem.
