The new man at the helm of the city corporation, Shankarlinge Gowda, on Tuesday said Bangalore’s reputation had taken a beating and the administration would work to restore it.

Gowda, the new commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), attended the council meeting on Tuesday. He said it is easy to present huge budget, but implementing it is difficult. He said importance has to be given to generating resources. He said instead of worrying about just roads and potholes, the ctiy administration needs to ensure that the city is clean.

“With people watching every step of the BBMP, we have to work cautiously and towards the benefit of the public. There should be a systematic improvement in the administration,” the new commissioner said.

He said he is not new to the BBMP as he had served as its deputy commissioner (development) 21 years ago. He said he had also worked as the commissioner of Mangalore and was part of the team involved in widening jurisdiction of Bangalore from 500 sq km to 800 sq km. He added that he would continue the good work started by his predecessor, Siddaiah.
