The Karnataka high court on Wednesday adjourned information technology and biotechnology minister Katta Subramanya Naidu’s petition challenging the order passed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to demolish an allegedly unauthorised layout that was built on land owned by the minister, his wife and two others.

Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu along with his wife Saubhagya and two others had challenged the January 29, 2010 order of the BDA to demolish the layout, which was constructed on seven acres and 10 guntas of land that they own in Byatarayanapura, Mysore Road. Justice Ram Mohan Reddy adjourned the case.

On the orders of the high court, an inspection of the area was conducted by an engineer of the BDA on September 18, 2010. A status report was submitted to the court by the BDA, which stated that the existing roads in the land in question had been asphalted, and two sites had compound walls of a temporary nature.

The minister and others contended that no layout had been formed. They held that they had not breached the undertaking given to the court in March 2009, saying that status quo would be maintained until the disposal of the petition by the court.
The minister and his wife, along with MD Lakshminarayana, former MLA of Turuvekere in Tumkur district, and one other person, had jointly purchased the land.
