MLAs, MLCs and leaders of Janata Dal (Secular) have decided to stage a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan in Bangalore on Monday to intensify their demand for dismissal of the BS Yeddyurappa government for its alleged land scams, corruption and nepotism.
JD(S) legislature party leader HD Revanna and his deputy in the assembly Bandeppa Kashempur said the party would also stage a dharna before the Rastrapathi Bhavan and submit a petition to President Pratibha Patil to draw her attention to the "rampant corruption and misuse of powers" by the BJP government.
They said JD(S) MLAs would not participate in the next session of the state assembly if speaker KG Bopaiah did not reject a report submitted to him by Appachu Ranjan committee recommending suspension of 15 Congress and JD (S) MLAs from assembly membership for their "unruly" behaviour in the House during the confidence vote in October last.
Terming the constitution of the Appachu Ranjan panel as "illegal", Kashempur claimed the panel had no powers to recommend to the Speaker to suspend the MLAs.
"The chief minister used the speaker to cover all scams by not allowing the debate under the adjournment motion sought to be moved by the Opposition," he alleged.
