“My husband and I are planning to go on a dinner date on Valentine’s Day. Let the Rama Sene heckle us,” challenges Celine D’Souza owner of a boutique in Mangalore. That seems to be the mood of the city this Valentine’s Day. “Our student association has activists of both Ram Sene and Bajrang Dal. They will join the part, too. No drinking or smoking, just music, dance, games and dinner. The party will not go on a minute beyond 11pm. We’re also keeping the decibel level within legal limits,” said Arun Shetty, student co-ordinator of a management school that is planning a V-Day ball.

As youngsters get ready to celebrate, police are upping security. Superintendent of Police Dakshina Kannada Dr A Subramanyeshwara Rao said, “We have made 34 preventive arrests. Another 20 people were being rounded off by Saturday night. Special traffic points have been erected. Officers on duty have been sensitised about trouble spots. Warnings have  been sent to outfits planning trouble.”
